Brisbane Metro Expansions

Link copied

Council is exploring ways to expand Brisbane Metro across our city, to the north, east, south and the airport.

Brisbane Metro is expanding

Expanding Brisbane Metro will create greater reliability and connectivity of our mass transit network by delivering high-capacity and high-frequency services, connecting key precincts with our suburbs and providing more travel options.

Business case

Following the success of Brisbane Metro routes M1 and M2, Council is working with the Australian and Queensland governments to explore expanding Brisbane Metro to the north, east, further south and to the airport.

We're identifying opportunities that can be delivered in the short, medium and long-term to significantly improve public transport and help shape Brisbane’s future as our city continues to grow.

Now in development, the business case will confirm alignment, depot locations, network improvements, infrastructure enhancements and delivery phasing for new metro routes. Council is working with Jacobs Group (Australia) to deliver the Brisbane Metro Expansions Business Case.

Have your say

To help shape the business case, we want to hear about your current travel experiences and suggestions for bus network improvements on the proposed expansion corridors, detailed below.

Proposed expansion corridors

The business case will focus on 4 priority corridors:

  • Northern Metro - CBD to Carseldine: Expanding services between central Brisbane and Lutwyche, Kedron, Chermside, Aspley and Carseldine.
  • Eastern Metro - CBD to Capalaba: Connecting central Brisbane, the eastern suburbs of Brisbane and neighbouring urban areas of Redland City Council.
  • Southern Metro - CBD to Springwood:  Complementing the extension of the South East Busway to connect to M1 at Eight Mile Plains busway station.
  • Airport Metro - CBD to Brisbane Airport: Creating new express connections between Brisbane’s international and domestic terminals and the CBD.
