The Race to Gold - Brisbane's Games transport legacy

Our proposal outlines how we'll improve movement in and around the city for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

In July 2032, global attention will be on Brisbane and South East Queensland as athletes from more than 200 nations and millions of visitors descend on our region for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Games present an opportunity to create long-lasting benefits and improved transport. We want people to have more options for getting where they need to go by making it easier and more sustainable to choose public and active transport.

With only 6 years to go, it's time to commit to the projects we need to deliver legacy benefits for our community for today, the Games and beyond.

All levels of Government need to work together to transport people during the Games and create a transport legacy that lasts well beyond the Games.

The latest edition of The Race to Gold outlines the projects our city needs to be Games-ready to enhance the way we travel across our city and region.

We released the first edition of this proposal in 2024. Since then the Queensland Government has completed the 100 Day Review and released the 2032 Delivery Plan, providing much-needed clarity on the path forward for Games infrastructure and transport.

Games-ready projects

Council's proposal for purpose-built, Games-ready projects includes initiatives focused around two key transport themes, to transform our city to leave a lasting transport legacy. 

Suburbs to the city

Moving large numbers of people effectively and efficiently between the suburbs and the inner city.

  • Brisbane Metro expansion program.
  • Story Bridge renewal.
  • Bowen Bridge Road upgrade.
  • High-frequency bus network expansion.
  • Ferry network enhancement.
  • Transport Coordination Centre.

Getting to the Games together

The time is now to invest in keeping Brisbane moving.

While Council is continuing to deliver transport programs and projects to meet the needs of our growing city, it will take collaboration from all levels of government to ensure we’re enhancing Brisbane’s transport network for the Games and beyond.

Working together, Brisbane City Council, the Queensland Government, Federal Government, and the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) can ensure Brisbane hosts a successful Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032 and leaves a lasting transport legacy for our city.
