Kedron Safer School Precinct
Council is improving transport infrastructure in the Kedron Safer School Precinct to ease congestion and improve safety.
We're creating Safer School Precincts in Brisbane suburbs. This will improve safety and make it easier to move around our schools and local streets.
The Kedron Safer School Precinct supports the following schools and surrounding community:
- Padua College
- St Anthony's Primary School
- Mount Alvernia College.
Initial consultation
In late 2024, we asked the community for feedback about their experiences travelling through the precinct. This included feedback on safety concerns, opportunities for improvement and challenges the community faced.
Community safety concerns focused on:
- unsafe driver behaviour and speeding
- high numbers of cars on the road
- rat running
- the need for more pedestrian crossings and footpaths.
This feedback was used to prioritise design treatments, alongside insights from technical investigations and modelling conducted by our engineering and design teams. During the design phase we worked closely with Mount Alvernia College, Padua College and St Anthony's Primary School to revise and refine the draft plan and ensure it met community needs.
Consultation on the draft plan
We shared the draft plan with the community for feedback in late October. Thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say. We received extensive feedback on the proposed treatments, parking changes, safety and travel impacts.
We will now review the feedback and draft plan. Once the plan is finalised, we will share the final plan, what we heard during consultation and how feedback was considered. We will also provide construction details and timeframes, with as much notice as possible before work begins.
We are currently considering community feedback and finalising the plan. We will share the final plan and construction details with the community before construction starts.
Works are scheduled to start from December 2026 with completion anticipated in mid-2027, depending on weather, site conditions and finalisation of the plan.
From term 4, 2026 our Active School Travel team will work closely with schools in the precinct. This is part of the school empowerment phase, where we’ll be supporting school communities with behaviour change strategies and resources to make the most of the new infrastructure.
We’re dedicated to keeping the community informed and will provide more updates as the project progresses.
