Ainsworth Street, Salisbury – Better Suburbs – Places and Spaces

Link copied

We’re planning to revitalise the Ainsworth Street streetscape between Georgina Street and Angela Street in Salisbury.

We’re working with the local community to revitalise Ainsworth Street and improved access to nearby shops and recreation areas.

The project is part of the Better Suburbs – Places and Spaces program. It supports Council's commitment to creating vibrant neighbourhoods and enhancing local places for residents and visitors.

Guided by community feedback and further site investigations, we have developed a proposed concept design that includes:

  • new trees and landscaped garden beds along Ainsworth Street
  • wider, upgraded footpaths along the Ainsworth Street Shops frontage
  • safer pedestrian crossing points on Ainsworth Street
  • upgraded intersections at Georgia and Angela streets to improve road safety for all road users where the proposed road safety upgrades will impact on street parking by introducing and/or extending ‘no stopping’/parking zone line marking
  • new street furniture
  • opportunities for public art and placemaking unique to the precinct.

The proposed road and pedestrian safety improvements will require the removal of up to 11 car parking spaces.

We invite you to provide feedback on the proposed concept design to help inform the final improvement plan.

Feedback is open until 11.59pm, Sunday 13 December 2026.

You can have your say by:

  • completing the online survey
  • phoning Council on 07 3403 8888
  • speaking with the project team at our community kiosk:
    • Sunday 6 December, 9.30-11.30am
    • next to Ainsworth Street Playground and Maggie's Market near the Salisbury Community Sports Club.

In late 2025, we invited the community to share ideas and feedback on ways to improve the Ainsworth Street streetscape. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Community feedback highlighted opportunities to:

  • increase shade, trees and greenery
  • improve connections to shops, community facilities and parks
  • create places to gather, relax and enjoy outdoor dining
  • improve road safety through traffic calming measures
  • make walking safer with improved pedestrian crossings
  • incorporate public art and placemaking that reflects the local area
  • improve street and park lighting.

  • 24 November to 14 December 2025: Project launch and investigation plan for community ideas and feedback.
  • 23 November to 13 December 2026: Proposed concept design released for community feedback.
  • Mid-2027: Final improvement plan released and start of construction.
  • Late 2027: Proposed project completion.
